Flagler County Plans to Close Household Hazardous Waste Site, Shift Drop-Off to WastePro
As part of the proposed fiscal year 2027 budget, Flagler County staff announced plans to close the county's household hazardous waste collection site on Old King's Road.
According to the presentation, the last day for drop-off at the current site would be September 15, 2026, with operations ceasing September 30, 2026. Staff said the service would shift to a drop-off location run by WastePro at 401 South Bay Street in Bunnell.
Officials noted the current service is provided countywide and does not require residents to show identification or provide their place of residence. Staff described the closure as a service impact tied to budget reductions, saying there had been "a lot of hand-wringing" over the decision.
Acceptable items at the new drop-off location were listed as typical household hazardous waste, including paint, tires, light bulbs, oil, pool chemicals, insecticides, pesticides, batteries, and electronic waste such as TVs and computers, as well as fire extinguishers.
