FPC and Matanzas Seniors Return to Bunnell Elementary Roots

May 21, 2026

They came. They saw. They conquered elementary school once upon a time, and on Wednesday, they returned as conquering heroes in caps and gowns.

High school seniors from Flagler Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School strutted back through the halls of Bunnell Elementary School this week for the annual "Walk The Halls" ceremony, proving that you really can go home again (especially when home has finger paintings on the walls and smells faintly of cafeteria pizza).

From Crayons to Diplomas

The heartwarming event brought soon-to-be graduates back to their former elementary stomping grounds, where they walked the same hallways they once navigated as wide-eyed youngsters. This time around, though, the seniors towered over the desks and could actually reach the water fountains without standing on their tiptoes.

Current Bunnell Elementary students lined the corridors to watch the parade of their future selves, getting a glimpse of what lies ahead after years of multiplication tables, book reports, and whatever new technology has replaced the overhead projector these days.

Full Circle Moment

The tradition serves a dual purpose in the Flagler Schools district: it celebrates the educational milestone of graduating seniors while inspiring younger students to keep their eyes on the prize. Nothing says "stay in school" quite like seeing former classmates who survived the journey and lived to tell the tale.

The event is part of the broader Flagler Schools promotion and graduation season, which transforms the district into a celebration of academic achievement every spring.

Graduation Day Approaches

Graduation ceremonies for both Flagler Palm Coast High School and Matanzas High School are scheduled for Sunday, May 31, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. The venue is considerably larger than Bunnell Elementary's hallways, which is probably a good thing given how much the students have grown since their elementary days.
