Two Juveniles Arrested After Snapchat Video Reveals Stolen Fishing Poles
Two juveniles are facing burglary and grand theft charges after investigators used a Snapchat video to track down custom fishing poles worth $1,550 stolen from an unlocked truck in Palm Coast.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested a 15-year-old Bunnell resident and a 12-year-old Palm Coast resident in connection with the May 3 break-in on Union Court.
Social Media Led to Break in Case
Deputies launched their investigation after responding to a report of the theft on Sunday, May 3. The breakthrough came when detectives discovered a Snapchat video that appeared to show the stolen fishing poles.
Investigators traced a suspect vehicle seen in the video and confirmed it had been in the Union Court neighborhood on the night of the burglary.
Interviews and Recovery
On May 5, detectives interviewed both juveniles—identified as Jonathan Brown, 15, of Bunnell, and a 12-year-old from Palm Coast—with their mothers present. The stolen fishing poles were recovered from locations linked to the suspects and returned to the victim.
Arrests and Charges
Both juveniles were arrested on May 13 on juvenile arrest orders for burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and grand theft. They were processed at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility before being transported to the Volusia County Department of Juvenile Justice.
