Palm Coast Man Arrested After Domestic Violence, K-9 Ends Barricade Standoff
A Palm Coast man's Sunday evening took a turn from bad to worse when what started as a domestic dispute ended with him face-to-face with a very determined police dog named Titan. Ilia Javoronkov, 43, now faces serious charges after allegedly assaulting his partner and then deciding that playing hide-and-seek with law enforcement was a good idea. Spoiler alert: it wasn't.
When Arguments Go Off the Rails
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office got the call around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from a residence in Palm Coast's R Section. The victim on the other end of that 911 call had quite the story to tell, and none of it was good for Javoronkov.
According to deputies, the evening's festivities included Javoronkov allegedly throwing the victim during an argument, which left visible injuries. But he apparently wasn't done yet. The victim reported being shoved into a closet, where Javoronkov proceeded to strangle them while simultaneously trying to break into a gun safe. The victim told investigators that Javoronkov threatened to kill them if he managed to crack the safe open. Fortunately for everyone involved, Javoronkov didn't have the combination, proving that sometimes forgetting passwords actually saves lives.
The terrifying encounter continued with more death threats as Javoronkov allegedly tried to force his way through a bedroom door. At some point during this ordeal, the victim wisely decided to call for help.
Enter the Cavalry (and One Very Good Boy)
When deputies rolled up to the scene, they could hear yelling coming from inside the home, which is never a promising sign. They managed to separate the victim from Javoronkov and get them safely outside, but that's when Javoronkov apparently decided to audition for a role in a low-budget action movie.
Instead of cooperating with law enforcement like a reasonable person might do, Javoronkov slammed the door and barricaded himself inside the residence. This bold strategy of refusing to come out when police are literally standing at your door rarely works out well, and this occasion was no exception.
K-9 Titan Saves the Day
The standoff concluded with the assistance of FCSO K-9 Titan, a four-legged officer who presumably had better luck convincing Javoronkov that cooperation was in his best interest. Javoronkov was taken into custody, likely with a newfound respect for canine law enforcement.
Just Another Weekend in Flagler County
Javoronkov's arrest was just one of eight that kept the Flagler County Sheriff's Office busy during a particularly eventful 60-hour stretch. Between 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15, and 6 a.m. on Monday, May 18, deputies made eight arrests while responding to a whopping 751 calls for service. They also conducted 146 traffic stops during that period, proving that crime and traffic violations apparently don't take weekends off in Flagler County.
As for Javoronkov, he's now facing charges that will likely keep him occupied for quite some time, giving him plenty of opportunity to reflect on his poor decision-making skills and perhaps consider a career change that doesn't involve barricading himself from police dogs.
