Flagler's Dance Gains Regional Transportation Role on TPO Executive Committee

April 14, 2026

Flagler County Commissioner Andy Dance will take on a larger role in shaping regional transportation priorities after being appointed to the Executive Committee of the Volusia-Flagler Transportation Planning Organization, the county announced April 14, 2026.

The appointment gives Flagler County added influence over how millions in transportation dollars are spent across the two-county region as the area grapples with traffic congestion from rapid population growth.

What the Role Entails

Dance already serves on the TPO Governing Board. His new position on the Executive Committee means he'll help set the board's agenda and guide funding priorities for roadways, transit, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and other mobility projects throughout Volusia and Flagler counties.

The TPO is the federally designated metropolitan planning organization responsible for coordinating transportation planning and funding across the region.

Timing and Regional Impact

"This role ensures Flagler County has a stronger seat at the table to advocate for our fair share of transportation funding and to prioritize projects that improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with growth," Dance said in a statement.

Volusia-Flagler TPO Executive Director Colleen Nicoulin said Dance's perspective on safety and transportation options would be an asset to future planning efforts.
