Flagler Schools to Wear Purple April 15 for Military Children
Students and staff across Flagler County Public Schools will wear purple on April 15 to honor military-connected children who face unique challenges like frequent moves and parent deployments.
The district-wide Purple Up! Day observance recognizes the sacrifices made by the estimated hundreds of military families in the Palm Coast area.
What is Purple Up! Day?
Purple Up! Day is a national observance held each April during the Month of the Military Child, a designation established by the Department of Defense in 1986. Purple represents all branches of the military, as it combines the colors of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Space Force.
The day brings visibility to the experiences of military children, who often change schools multiple times and cope with the stress of having parents deployed overseas or to distant bases.
How to Participate
Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to wear purple clothing or accessories on April 15. Schools across the district will participate in the observance to show support for their military-connected peers and colleagues.
