Flagler County Emergency Officials Lead Five-Hour Disaster Preparedness Breakfast

May 15, 2026

If you think breakfast is just about pancakes and coffee, think again. Flagler County turned Tuesday's morning meal into a crash course on how not to panic when disaster strikes, hosting a Disaster Preparedness Breakfast that ran from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Palm Coast. That's right: five hours of disaster talk. Someone clearly brought extra coffee.

The event brought together an impressive lineup of county departments, first responders, and community partners, all united by a common goal of keeping residents safe when Mother Nature throws her inevitable tantrum. Because let's face it, living in Florida means eventually asking yourself, "Did I remember to buy batteries?"

The Experts Were in the House

Flagler County Public Affairs, Health & Human Services, and Emergency Management set up informational tables throughout the gathering, ready to answer every conceivable question about emergency preparedness. Attendees had the chance to chat with the people who actually know what they're doing when things go sideways.

The speaker roster read like a who's who of Flagler County's emergency response leadership. Fire Rescue Chief Michael Tucker addressed the crowd, sharing insights from years of responding to disasters both big and small. Health & Human Services Director Joe Hegedus offered his perspective on keeping the community healthy during emergencies. And Housing Program Manager Eduardo Diaz-Cordero discussed the crucial role of shelter and housing when disaster displaces residents from their homes.

The Main Event

Jonathan Lord from Emergency Management delivered the keynote address, presumably without starting with "I don't mean to alarm you, but..." The event successfully drew participation from multiple county agencies and local organizations, all of whom play vital roles in disaster response and preparedness efforts.

Because when the next hurricane warning pops up on your phone, you'll be glad someone at this breakfast was paying attention.
