FPL Burying Power Lines in Palm Coast to Prevent Storm Outages

Florida Power & Light is burying power lines in neighborhoods across its service territory, including Palm Coast, as part of an effort to prevent storm-related blackouts and strengthen the electrical grid.

The utility announced it's continuing its Storm Secure Underground Program, which replaces overhead power lines in residential areas with underground infrastructure designed to withstand severe weather.

What This Means for Palm Coast

FPL has not yet disclosed which specific neighborhoods will receive upgrades next or provided a timeline for when work might begin in particular areas. The company describes the initiative as an ongoing, multi-year effort affecting communities throughout Florida.

Why Underground Lines?

Underground power lines are less vulnerable to damage from high winds, falling trees, and flying debris during hurricanes and tropical storms—common causes of extended outages in Florida. By moving infrastructure below ground, FPL aims to reduce both the frequency and duration of weather-related power disruptions.
